Abstract

The same quality that makes Steve Estes's important book such a successful accomplishment also demands work from the reader. Ask and Tell is a true oral history. It presents the voices of its subjects - the gay and lesbian veterans who have been a muted presence among us for so long - with a skilful balance of transparency and coherence.
