Abstract

Pennsylvania is one of a handful of states that does not compensate actually innocent persons who are exonerated after being convicted and incarcerated for crimes they did not commit. It does not matter how young they were when they were convicted nor how long they were imprisoned before being released. This video makes the case for a compensation statute for exonerees. It features interviews with exonerees Edward Baker and Eugene Gilyard. Heath Khan, Jesse Lambert, Julia Schichmann, and Erin Sweeney, Penn Law Class of 2019, were producers and directors on the project.
